These are trunks of two trees. The root systems are still there, so it's obvious they were carved where they died. The one in front has a second floor you can climb up to like a tree house. The stairs are carved right into the inside wall. There is also a chair and a shelf with books carved into the inner wall to make it look like a den or office. Posted by Picasa

More info. Posted by Picasa

Just some info on the tree. The tree is still alive, but due to age and a couple of lightening stikes, it's held together at the top with cable. There is no doubt that this is the family's main source of income.  Posted by Picasa

Here is that famous tree that people drive through. I paid $1.50 and had to take the bike off the car, to drive through. It's a cool little family owned place with a handfull of "tree art" things to look at. It killed about 1/2 hour to see everything. I think it was worth $1.50 to have a picture of my car parked inside a tree. Posted by Picasa

Everything is constantly wet in the northwest. Moss grows on everything and the ground is always saturated. Posted by Picasa

The Immortal Tree.  Posted by Picasa

Very self expainitory. Posted by Picasa

This one is called Big Tree, for obvious reasons. It's hard to tell from the picture, but the trunk goes way back into the woods. Posted by Picasa

On to Redwood National Forest. These trees are so massive! The pictures in magazines don't do thses thing justice. I put my car next to a little one to give some perspective. Posted by Picasa

Pictures were tough on this day. The weather was really bad. I was traveling along the Oregon coast on 101. It was definately a great drive, even with the rain. Posted by Picasa

O.K., last hint. If you haven't figured it out, Goonies was filmed here. Along with Kindergarden cop, Teenage mutiant turtles and a bunch of other flics I don't remember. Hollywood really like this part of the coast for some reason. I don't blame them. It's a very pretty place. Rains a lot though, if you can't tell from the pictures. Posted by Picasa

Here's another movie hint. Have you figured it out yet? Posted by Picasa

The hills here are very steep and scary to drive up. I found that walking is much safer. My poor clutch got a workout during the visit. Posted by Picasa

Taken from the roof of the Hotel Elliot. The hotel is run by a couple friend of my boyfriend. Really nice place. They have a great garden sitting area on the roof to hang out in. Posted by Picasa

There are hundreds of them in the harbour. I got a sea lion lesson from one of the boat guys while I was there. He told me how troublesome they are. They break docks, scare tourists, destroy boats, eat all the fish. He said they were not there first, but because they are endangered, no one can get rid of them or hurt them. I find them to be like the buffalo. Neat to watch, but very annoying around a daily routine. Posted by Picasa

What a tough life! Sea lions are cool to see, but are so noisy, the hotel near by have to warn tourist about staying in the seaside rooms. They bark 24/7 and you can hear them for 1/2 a mile. Posted by Picasa

I love all the fishing boats. I could sit on the docks all day and watch the bustling of the workers. Posted by Picasa

I'm not really sure what this old buiding was. Maybe a place to unload fish or tie up boats. The bridge in the background goes across to Washington. It is so big and a little scary to cross. There was a storm rolling in this day and made the trip over seem a little unnerving.  Posted by Picasa

Fishing boats in the harbour in Astoria. Washington in the background. This is a great place to watch ships come in at night. Posted by Picasa

Another hint. Posted by Picasa

Do the rocks look familiar? If your a movie buff, you'll know it. Remember, I'm visiting in and around Astoria. Posted by Picasa

Seaside, Or. My first view of the Pacific ocean. It's a lot colder and rougher than the east coast. I think I'll stick to surfing on the east side. These waves are scary! Posted by Picasa

I picked a great time of year for travel. The fall colors were fantastic on Oregon. Posted by Picasa

A lot of the trees grow together here. Kinda neat to see. The base of these two are longer than my car. Posted by Picasa

Here is the top half of the spruce. Posted by Picasa
